About Miquel

Miquel Brown was born Feb 8, 1949, in Montreal, Canada, and was raised in Vancouver. By 1963 she became a young mother of twins at the tender age of 14 only, one of the them later becoming a successful artist in her own right, Sinitta Renet Malone, under her first name, Sinitta. After touring in the American version of Hair and befriending a young singer Amii Stewart along the way, she arrived in London in 1973. A 1977 single First Time Around for PYE Records flopped, but she signed with Polydor the year after for this gorgeous disco album, written and produced by Alan Hawkshaw. It peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Disco Charts. The same year Miquel demoed a disco version of a well-known 60s soul classic called Knock On Wood, but seeing the producer had a deal with Hansa and Miquel was signed to Polydor, she suggested her friend Amii, saying that as a bonus Amii knew how to dance. In 1979, Amii's version went to #1 all over the world. By 1983 Miquel signed with UK producer Ian Levine and achieved a million-selling single with So Many Men, So Little Time which hit #1 in France and Mexico. More singles followed, He's A Saint, He's A Sinner (from the album Manpower) and Close To Perfection (from the album by the same name in 1985) but after the single I Was Strong (1990) Miquel mainly focused on her acting career. In 1997 she released a version of the Pet Shop Boys' It's A Sin, produced by Hazell Dean.
